Did you know that Missouri is home to one of the world’s largest subterranean lake? Today we will visit some of the most unique locations in our state! We will start at Elephant Rocks State Park, named after its awe-inspiring trunk-to-tail gigantic pink granite boulders appearing to the top of the hill like a train of circus elephants. This unique rock formation was created 1.5 billion years ago by lava being pushed to the surface in the most unique and beautiful was possible. Today’s hike will not even feel like a hike - this place feels like an adult’s playground, where you will be able to jump from rock to rock and let your imagination fly with it. It is a simple 1.5 mile hike amazing for families and adults.
After the hike, we will head to Bonne de Terre Mine for a very unique adventure. Bonne de Tenne Mine is a natural historic site and home for the World Largest Subterranean Lake. We will take a guided boat tour of the Billion Gallon Lake with its crystal clear water and amazing views of different parts of the mine such as submerged ore carts, scaffolding, grating, pillars, slurry pipes, elevator shafts and much more. Bonne Terre is one of the most unusual and beautiful places in Missouri.
