Guide Spotlight: Emily Wilson
None of the magic at 37 North would be possible without the team of amazing guides. These individuals all make time in their busy schedules to lead our trips, and they do it solely because of their love for the outdoors and the 37 North mission of getting people connected to nature and their community.
Because all of our guides have such unique experiences, personalities, and talents, I decided to create a special blog series called “Guide Spotlight” to help you get to know them a bit better! For our first interview, our energetic and radiant guide Emily Wilson agreed to share some information about herself and her life as part of the 37 North team.
Tell me a little bit about yourself!
I am blessed with an amazing husband, Bill, and two beautiful kiddos, Carson (18) and Avanna (10). We all love being outside & mostly enjoy kayaking together.
My husband and I both ride motorcycles and try to go to as many STL Cards games as possible. I love to garden, when I have spare time, and we plant a ton of tomato plants each year because we basically live on BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) sandwiches all summer long.
What do you do for a living?
I currently work for a local solar company called Sun Solar as a district sales manager.
What is your role with 37 North?
I’m a guide & self-proclaimed social ambassador (basically I like to talk a lot and tag anyone and everyone I can in social media posts).
I love learning more about survival situations for the back country and also want to bring more awareness to Leave No Trace through more trips geared around these topics.
How did you get involved with 37N? When did you start guiding?
I was lucky enough to stumble upon them on Facebook and basically forced them to love me and let me be a part of their team!! I went on my first hike with them in July of 2018, became Wilderness First Aid certified in August of 2018, and then led my first solo hike for them at the end of that month.
Is this the first time you've done something like this or have you been involved in other outdoor adventures companies?
This is the first outdoor business I’ve been a part of. We’ve been camping, hiking, and kayaking for years and planned several large group outings for personal events, but nothing associated with an established business.
What is your favorite part about being a guide?
Getting to show off how beautiful the Ozarks are and seeing people enjoying something new!
What is your favorite trip you've ever taken with 37N?
I love all the waterfall hikes!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Machu Picchu & Iceland are both big ones on my list of where I want to go!
What are some ways that you try to incorporate sustainability and eco-friendly living into your everyday life?
I really try to reduce my plastic use as much as possible.
