37 North Expeditions is a Permitted Guide Service for Day Hiking and Overnight Backpacking/Camping within the boundaries of Buffalo National River. We’re excited to offer this guided outdoor paddle adventure in partnership with our friends at the Buffalo Outdoor Center. The Buffalo Outdoor Center is authorized to provide canoe rentals and transport services within the Buffalo National River.

Participants must be able to swim, and confidence in mobility is required.

This trip has a minimum of 6 participants.

  • Steel Creek to Kyles Landing (~8 Miles of Scenic Paddling)

    Experience the beauty of the Buffalo National River on this expertly curated kayak journey from Steel Creek to Kyles Landing, guided by the seasoned professionals at 37 North Expeditions. This iconic stretch of river showcases the best of Arkansas wilderness—towering limestone bluffs, forested banks, and abundant wildlife.

    Trip Overview
    This experience is designed for guests with prior paddling experience and strong swimming ability. While the pace is relaxed and scenic, participants should be comfortable maneuvering a kayak, spending several hours on the water, and swimming in a natural river environment. This is not a suitable trip for first-time paddlers.

    Your day begins at Steel Creek with a welcome from your 37 North Expeditions expert guides, who manage logistics, provide a safety overview, and set the tone for a smooth, enjoyable day on the river.

    Along the route, you’ll enjoy:

    • Dramatic limestone bluffs and sweeping river views

    • Calm pools and flowing stretches ideal for confident paddlers

    • Opportunities to swim, relax, and explore along the riverbanks

    Midday, your guides will host a scenic riverside stop where a fresh lunch, snacks, and refreshing beverages are served right on the riverbank. There’s ample time to swim, unwind, and take in the surroundings before continuing downstream.

    What’s Included

    • Single or tandem kayak, paddle, and PFD

    • Dry bags for personal gear

    • Lunch, snacks, and refreshments provided on the river

    • On-water guidance and safety support

    Important Requirements

    • Previous kayaking or paddling experience required

    • Strong swimming ability required

    • Comfortable spending 4–6 hours on the river

    Difficulty: Moderate
    Distance: Approximately 8 miles
    Duration: Half to full day (4–6 hours on the river)

    • 8:00 AM Arrive at the Motto SCOTT Adventure Lab no later than this time.

    • 8:30 AM Depart for BOC

    • 10:00 AM Arrive at BOC

    • 10:30 AM Begin paddle

    • 12:00PM Break for Lunch

    • 1:30PM Hemmed-In Hollow Hike Begins

    • 2:30PM Hemmed-In Hollow Hike Ends

    • 3:00PM Paddle Resumes

    • 4:30 PM Arrive at Kyles Landing

    • 5:00 PM Head back to Bentonville

    • 7:00 PM Arrive at SCOTT Adventure Lab @ the MOTTO

However, please note that 37 North Expeditions has certain age restrictions: children under 7 are not allowed on the water, and solo paddling is only permitted for children over 12.

  • What to Wear: Athletic clothing, swimsuit, water shoes or sandals (no flip flops), hat, sunscreen

    What to Bring: Dry Bag, Cell phone case, Change of Clothes, Towel, medications in water proof case, glasses/sunglasses leash, water bottle, snacks
